Q & A

Questions you may have:

What if I can't sing the way I hear other people sing?

Your voice is one-of-a-kind, and the privilege we have is to discover your sound and your unique potential. You don't have to sound like anyone else. In fact, our job is to leave expectations at the door, discover what is inside you, and learn how to best support it with breathing and relaxation exercises, proper placement, and posture.

I love to sing, but I feel so nervous when I sing in front of people. What can I do?

Breathe! A performance is a high-stress, highly exciting situation; within that intensity, you need a kind of relaxation that will allow you to do your work. When you are grounded in good vocal technique, you're already halfway there. I also teach a process of relaxation that you'll build into your own practice sessions and performances, which will help you to feel safe so that your singing can shine.

I audition for shows and for solo parts in my choir. I want to improve my singing so I'll be selected more often. What should I be doing?

As your technique becomes more solid, your chances of being cast in a show or role increase. We'll also get to know your voice, your acting, and y our personality so that we can choose appropriate audition songs for you - pieces that will get you noticed and that highlight all the goods you've got!

Can I learn how to sing all different styles of music?

Yes. The best technique is one that teaches your body and your voice to be flexible - just like a well-conditioned athlete. We'll work with classical vocal exercises, the healthy foundation for all styles of music. Then we'll select your favorite music to work on together - classical Broadway, jazz, folk. I also teach voice for those studying Jewish texts and prayers.
